Empire Building Diagnostics, Inc. owned and managed by Michael and Mark Young, began the onerous and dangerous job of stabilizing the historic White Brothers Livery Stable this week. Working with their engineers Jim Stramecki and Kevin V. Connors, PE, AIA of eco logic, the team began removing loose debris and shoring up the inside of the stable to hold the floors in place. Norbert Frey, the superintendent for the job did receive approval from each adjacent property owner to gain access through their private property to effectively rehab the stable. Temporary cabling was put in place through the façade, back to the first beam inside, to hold the front wall steady while work continued. Temporary scaffolding was attached to the purple west side home closest to the structure, to protect it from falling bricks and debris. Property owners on the east side continue to work out arrangements to possibly remove their garage allowing easier access. The professional Empire Diagnostic work team continues making every effort to alleviate pressure to save the facade, the walls and the enjoining tower.
We are pleased with the progress the rehab team has made to secure this wonderful building and we look forward to getting more specific updates from Empire Diagnostics and Sam Savarino, the new owner soon.
As a group of concerned neighbors we continue to monitor the actions of City Hall to combat demolition by neglect, to hold Bob Freudenheim accountable, and to protect our community. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to save the livery and Buffalo’s rich history. Stop by the livery on Sunday July 20, from 3-5 pm to get an update and celebrate our success.
Please help our efforts by donating online now. As of today July 14, we have brought in close to $1700. Out of the that amount we have paid $480 in filing fees. Our two attorneys have donated their time and will not be charging us legal fees.
Nevertheless, we have two unpaid invoices from the engineers that we cannot yet pay due to insufficient funds in the account. We are shy approximately $800. Every donation will help and we will be offering some special small tokens of gratitude for every donation of $20 or more starting on Sunday July 20th at our little celebration. I hope to see you there!!! And thank you so much for your commitment to SaveTheLivery!!!
Sincerely,
Catherine Herrick (716) 949-2800
